January 8, 2022 marks the first day that sports betting is legal in the state of New York. For Doctor Mizzieri, who has been bookmaking off and on in the state since the late 1970s, this dilemma is met with both joy and sadness. Sadness in the that more of his brethren bending the rules of law and maintaining websites in the Dominican Republic will now lose clientele, because now you won’t have to walk to the middle of the George Washington Bridge or pull over in the Lincoln Tunnel just to make a legal bet. But there is joy in that this will lessen his burden, with less folks asking him the spread between LA and Charlotte on the check-out line at Trader Joe’s, and less time playing emotional counsel to Jet fans who still bet with their hearts and end up replacing broken TVs three times a season.
Tonight, he’s taking the Celtics over the Knicks straight out. Nothing related to recent play – the last matchup between them was a real dogfight. But let’s note that it is exactly sixty eight days to Saint Patrick’s Day, and six divided by eight is an important ratio in the history of Pythagorean geometry, and this is surely an indication of the luck of the Irish.

Jaylen Brown had 22 points, 11 assists and 11 rebounds for his first career triple-double, Jayson Tatum scored 19 points and the Boston Celtics beat the New York Knicks 99-75 on Saturday night. So, it seems Dr. Mizzieri was on it.
